Gowdy, R-Spartanburg, had a 27-inch Apple computer monitor and two cameras, all public property, stolen from his Capitol Hill office on April 11. According to rules for the U.S. House of Representatives, Gowdy was held personally responsible for the loss and was asked to reimburse the government. The rule exists to encourage careful stewardship of public property and to dissuade employees from taking office property, said Josh Dix, Gowdy's spokesman |

| Dennis Kucinich, longtime Democratic Congressman from Ohio, has finally put an end to speculation about his intention in regards to a Washington State Congressional seat. As strange as this situation is, after eight terms consistently being reelected, Ohio had enough negative population growth to end up losing two Congressional seats. Kucinich ended up in a district that was merged with a neighboring district, and was forced into a showdown with Marcy Kaptur, the Dem currently seated in that other district. Despite repeated visits to Washington State, even before his primary loss, and a fair deal of support from some local... |

| Despite the fact that economists across the political spectrum concede that economic expansion is a more advantageous approach to raising revenue than raising tax rates, some members of the DC City Council are pushing forward with a job-killing tax hike even though Mayor Gray has provided a sensible alternative that would loosen restrictions pertaining to when businesses can stay open and stores can sell alcohol. Instead, Councilman Jim Graham wants to put the screws to the Districts small businesses by hiking the citys liquor tax. The results of such a hike would be disastrous for employers, consumers, and jobseekers alike.... |

| Tricia Wittmann-Todd, the "pastoral life coordinator" who refused to circulate petitions in support of Referendum 74, the ballot measure to roll back Washington's same-sex "marriage" law, even though Archbishop J. Peter Sartain asked parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Seattle to do so, is at it again. This time, in her weekly message to parishioners of St. Mary's Church in Seattle, Tricia is commenting on the sixth and seventh chapter of Acts to imply that same-sex unions are called for because of the demands of "justice." She writes, "This story is a good reminder that ours is a very long and... |

| The Washington City Council is considering a ban on open carry of firearms. Police Chief Ken Hahn has asked the council to pass an ordinance that would prohibit people from openly carrying a firearm in the city. There is no need for anyone other than a law enforcement officer, or the military, to openly carry a firearm in the city. We do have in Missouri a law that permits the carrying of a concealed weapon as long as a permit is obtained. To obtain a permit, the process includes a degree of training in the use of the firearm. St. Joseph's parish is one of at least three local Catholic churches deciding they don't want the fight over gay marriage to have a place there during Sunday services, in spite of a strong message from the Seattle Archbishop. Almost one-fifth (19%) of survey participants correctly identified their states per-student funding level: According to the survey, Washington spent $9,688 per student in 2008-9. About half (46%) thought the state spent $8,000 or less. |

The homogeneity, interviews with dozens of current and former Metro workers indicated, is a proxy to a clubby culture of favoritism in which merit has little to do with promotions, and accountability, such as noting safety violations, is a... |

That was the genesis of the I-90 Wildlife Watch, a multi-agency effort that enlisted public volunteers -- commuters -- to document wildlife sightings.
